Three of my favorite topics: Cary Grant, orchestra and thermodynamics (no, really, I have an engineering background). I never thought I'd see them woven together so masterfully and to such effect. Brava!

"it’s the music that gets to me." So appropriate for The Firebird, where I feel the dancing takes second (or third) place after the music and the costumes and set (if well done). The music is all consuming, like fire. A beautiful chapter, Mary.

There’s such beauty in this chapter—the way memory, science, and music all swirl together like fire and ash. The metaphor of “absolute zero” as an unreachable clarity, both scientific and emotional—such an impossible precision, this remembering.

So mesmerizing! And I love the shorthand to remember the laws of thermodynamics: "1. You cannot win. 2. You cannot break even. 3. You cannot get out of the game." Beyond elegant. 💕
