I was 21 yo and was on my 2nd day in jail out of 10 days total that I have ever spent in jail. I honestly thought the world was going to end and I would never see my family again. They put us on lockdown so no calls or communication.
Still hoping to do that guest essay about YOU, perhaps in late September or mid-October, but need one or two more clips, Debbie, from our interview to do that -- when and if you have time. Have been thinking of you so often. Love, Mary
Thank you, Mary, for your moving 9/11 message admonishing us to remember what happened and reminding us who we are and have become. philchurch.substack.com
I should have taken a picture of the van I walked by earlier. There was a van, and on the side, in large, Times New Roman font, was written: ELEVEN Contracting and I thought it was an interesting name for a company. I left early this AM, and didn't open a laptop, or look at my phone to remember it was 9/11 today. But now reading your post Mary, the van and that number ELEVEN came back to me. Not that it is related. Not much but a coincidence.
I was living in the Annex in Toronto that morning, when 9/11 happened. I had the television on. We had one channel and I too witnessed, in real time, the second airplane hit. I have goosebumps now writing this. Afterward I was very shaken. I needed to be around people, so I took my dog to the park and I stood with other people. We all stood quietly with our dogs, barely saying anything. It was so strange and still. And the sky was such a vibrant, clear, cloudless blue. I remember that sky so well.

Oh my! ...
What a wise instinct, to go to Paul Celan's writings at that terrible time.
Don't know how that came to me ... You are such a find, Jeff.

Can't say that's a comment. Honestly, don't only link--let's connect ...
Oh, sorry. You asked us to make something on 9/11. I did. Thought the link would speak for itself. Anyway, thank you for your essay.
You got it. I will take a look. xo ~ Mary

Powerful, Krista -- so important to be said, just as you have done, from your heart.
Thanks, Mary, for this reminder, call, comfort on the anniversary of a day we can never forget.
Thank you so for this meaningful comment. ~ Mary
