I love this, Nicci! I once met a man in one of my writing workshops who makes a habit out of throwing out all his notebooks at years' end. Sounded blasphemous when I heard it. But then I started envying him -- to be freed of all that scribble?
Maybe what we need is, indeed, just a photo. Proof that existed. And then... space.
Also, there's something poetic about losing pages in a chicken coop.
Alicia, I'm a big advocate of keeping journals and transferring scribbles to a computer journal. What I like to call 'glimmers' make their way into stories and the novel I'm finishing, actually everything I've ever written--in surprising ways. xo Mary

No!!! We must keep all our notebook scribbles!!!! 😂
Lol is there such a thing as a scribble hoarder?
I never knew there was a name for people like me until this very second 😲
😂
Thank you, Alicia, and thanks for inspiring me to share this story here!! And I agree. I don’t know what it is, but the poetry is undeniable.
Yay! I’m so glad you did.

I do love that. Specific dialogue, thoughts, details -- glimmers! -- make a piece and are often hard to recall if we don't capture and hold them.
Exactly!
I really enjoyed reading this - thanks Mary and Nicci! I've just subscribed to Nicci's Notes on the strength of this post! 😃
Hey, thanks!! Happy to have you.
Rebecca, Nicci is lucky to have you! xo Mary
You’re always so kind, Mary!
