I've fallen for you all over again. I was out of touch for a while, but I'm back! And so enjoying the beginning of this. And your reading of it is so soothing. Love it!
Mary, this is gorgeous. How did I miss this chapter? Splaying, arched bows, cold fire, cracked piano boards, and more driving in Iowa. Your prose shimmers; so does your voice.
Hi, Mary, Thanks so. I will now be posting the prose sections of each chapter as new posts each week and when all sections are up, I'll then post the full audio for the chapter. I'll do this starting next Thursday for Chapter 3: "The Lovers"-- It seems that the audio is too long for Substackers to listen to as the first crack at the chapter. So, Chapters 1 through 5 in audio are up and things will slow down now so that I might capture more readers. What do you think about that decision? You've been such grand reader and I need your help now for this decision.
Mary, I’m honored. I think it’s a great idea. My sense is that Substack is predominantly a place not just of reading, but of worship of the visual world, including the written word. But now that the audio feature is available, people can make a choice. You read so beautifully, and your voice is such a perfect vehicle for your words, that I love both. So: yes.
Thank you so Matthew for taking the time to listen to the audio. Some are bemoaning the fact that I'm not posting the written. So, I'm super grateful for this comment.
Magic! I closed my eyes today, shutting down all senses but my ears and let your story play out, frame by frame, in my mind’s eye. And it was glorious. Barren cherry trees, splaying violins, cold flames and warm kisses. I’m all in and so enjoying it.
