Mary, I’m not sure how I landed on this today. But I’m stunned by the beauty and intelligence of this piece. May your father’s memory be a blessing. (I’m more and more struck by all the places we have shared, from Baltimore to DC to Mizzou! Be well.)

Oh, wow, thank you so for this generous comment. And I so agree about shared places--we must meet!

I shared it with my friend Sari Rosenblatt whose short story collection ‘Father Guards the Sheep’ won the Iowa Short Fiction prize in 2021. She is my greatest writing cheerleader and dear friend.

Mary, this is all so beautiful, so finely drawn that I'm going to say to others, all of it. Read all of it.

Another moving piece. The paragraph in which you describe your mother's eyes is especially beautiful. I returned to the White Painting in this post a few times. I'm amazed at the impact it has on me. I don't know anything about Robert Rauschenberg. An eye-opening post.

Very moving. Your dad sounds like had a good sense of humour and a pragmatic outlook. Love the photo
