So much truth and wisdom. Thank you for this. I took down my online dating profiles for a wild summer romance with myself. It's been fabulous. I've gotten to know myself better and am confident it will make me more interesting and a better partner. I've also renewed my appreciation for the love of friendship.

I wrote a book about online dating and evaluating my entire life with men in between two cancer treatments. Courting Me(n): Juggling Love, Lust, and Listening Within. I self published it but didn't push to sell it. Then I took it down a few years later because it revealed so much truly personal stuff. I thought I would edit it, but I haven't. The process of writing it, and putting it out into the world, even though I thought I wasn't ready was transformative. My goals for relationships, the authentic truly heart felt goals clarified and got better from that day forward. Did I do therapy? Yes. Did I work on loving myself? Yes. Did I clarify what I really want and need? Yes. My used book still sells for a little less than 4x what I charged for it. In July of 2019 3 copies were selling for $1479 and I have no idea why. Wonderful article. Thank you!

Publishing is so hard--and rejection, the name of the game. That's something we artists have to carry, a bit like the grief you've so eloquently described. The good news is the $1479; the bad is that we writers never get a cent when our books are bought used--something lots of folks don't even know. What a warm, revealing comment. The work in this comment alone is the work of a writer who risks. Risk is something I talk about in my series Write It! How to get started--and we'll talk more about this--you and me, for sure.

I know only toooooo well I didn't get a cent of the $1479 but still, "Whatever the market will bear?" Who paid that much that still keeps the last one used for sale now at $69.81? Talk to you soon.

Love the article. Couldn't be far from the truth. I stopped looking for love and prince charming once I realized I have to find out who I AM.....Love takes courage and strength to explore the unknown. Following our heart doesn't sound as easy anymore. Thank you Mary.
